Wava Banes Turner Henry was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma on March 14,1920.
Wava attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Band music. At Texas Tech Univerdsity,
Wava Banes established the status of Tau Beta Sigma as the Alpha chapter until it went national. Wava was growing up in a
time where most universities were not allowing women in the band at the time. Then because of World War II, the universities
began to accept women in the bands and as well as open up positions for women. In 1941, Wava Banes married H. Jack Turner,
Jr. who was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi. Wava became band director after marrying Jack. Then Wava returned to Texas Tech University
to receive her Master's Degree. After Jack's death, Wava persisted to receive her certication in math and counseling.
After retirement, Wava engaged in many different programs. In 1981, Wava married Reese Henry of which they are still married
today. Wava Banes Turner Henry is a charter member of the Beta chapter, a Life member of the National Chapter, an honorary
member of the Alpha chapter, a life member of the Board of Trustees, a Life member of the National Alumni Association, and
an honorary member of Alpha Omicron Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Wava continues to live on with her life and upholds the name
of Tau Beta Sigma.
